Issue 142 is now out!

Just to say that Issue 142 of Unicorn Magazine (April, May & June 2018) is now out! It is instantly available online as a downloadable PDF from the usual places (our website, ISSUU etc), and the hard copies should be being distributed now.

Please also remember to sign up to our mailing list and read this blog for amends in between issues… For example, there is already an amend necessary to the printed version of 142 (we may be changing the download version if / when new ad artwork is available)… The Place Theatre have said that their ad on page 10 (and the Diary on page 27) contains an incorrect date – the Calan concert on 19th April is in fact on the 18th April… Please amend your diaries accordingly….

Mike Silver gigs in the Unicorn area…

This just in from Mike Silver…
Here is a list (of one, he he!) of clubs that you can see me playing live close(ish) to you.
June 20th (this Tuesday coming) 2017
8.00pm
St Neots Folk Club
The Priory Centre
St Neots
PE19 2BH
St Neots is a wonderful club with a long history. Running a club for as long as Patti and Roger Pitt have can only be described as a labour of love. Their effort and hard work is simply outstanding. I look forward very much to seeing them again and to playing for their audience.
Hope to see you there.

Haddenham Ceilidhs – December 2016 Events

This just in from Haddenham ceilidhs:

Hello everyone,

We are looking forward to Saturday evening, December 3rd for our Ceilidh and concert at Haddenham Village Hall.

For our Ceilidh in the main hall, dancing starts at 8pm – Music provided by DIATONICS, NICK WALDEN calling the dances and a chance to watch THE HADDENHAM MUMMERS performing the traditional Haddenham mummers play.

Diatonics are a lively and energetic band with a distinct style that will ensure dancing will be at it’s best. The band has a back line of drums, bass and guitars which fuse with melodeons and fiddle. The last time at Haddenham they took the place by storm!

Meanwhile, our concert in the intimate Walter Rose room starts at 8.40pm with a short spot from our compere. KITTY VERNON, followed by a 20 minute spot from WATLING STREET and then two 45 minute spots from our main guest of the evening, JOHN SPIERS.

John Spiers, known as Squeezy, has made a name for himself as one of the leading squeezebox players of his generation. Well known for his long-standing duo partnership with Jon Boden in the formidable Spiers & Boden as well as his contribution to the massively popular Bellowhead, John has also played with Eliza Carthy’s Ratcatchers  and a number of local folk-dance bands.

Doors open 7.15pm, dancing starts at 8pm. An admission charge of £12, lets you dance or enjoy the concert or perhaps a bit of both! We rarely put up “House Full” signs – it is a large venue but if you are concerned about gaining admission on the evening, just e-mail or telephone and we will reserve tickets for you on the door.

Please feel free to forward this e-mail to anyone or any other groups you feel may be interested.

For more information, contact John at Action Folk, John’s House, 5 Church Street, Aylesbury, Bucks HP20 2QP Tel. 07717 047039

Details of our programme up to June 2017 are available on our website.
