This just in from Baldock & Letchworth Club:
In case you have not spotted it on the Baldock & Letchworth Club website we have a programme change; on Feb 24 we present Moirai www.moiraitrio.co.uk
Moirai is a meeting of the musical minds of Jo Freya (Blowzabella, Token Women, Fraser Sisters), Sarah Matthews (Cupola, Cupola:Ward) and Melanie Biggs (Boxtet).
Having played many a tune together in sessions throughout the country, they decided to knit together their various talents by forming Moirai.
Moirai means ‘Spinners of Destiny’, and performances weave the trio’s instrumental talents together with haunting vocals.
The result: enchanting musical arrangements delivered with skill and a healthy dollop of humour (please note: Neither knitting or spinning forms part of the performances!).
During 2015, Moirai performed at The Gower Folk Festival, Sidmouth Folk Week, Whitby Folk Week, and the newly launched Robin Hood Folk Festival in Nottingham. They also toured a variety of folk clubs and venues during the spring and autumn. Their CD has proved to be very popular and has received excellent reviews, and has already had a second pressing.
“Together they prove a very individual combination, and make music that’s definitely hard to resist” – FATEA
“Sideways is a delightful, relaxing album. The instruments blend easily as do the voices” – folking.com
“with three such auspicious talents this début album does not disappoint” – The Living Tradition
“this version of Moirai is destined for great things” – fRoots
“Melodic, engaging and beautifully crafted music with a skip in its step. It reaches out and grabs your attention with a sense of just-rightness about it.” – Bothy Folk Club
